Book of Creativity : Introduction

Created by

This PDF is my raw longhand introduction to my English translation of Sefer Yesira, an ancient Hebrew mystical text important not just for its internal creative effect on major medieval Jewish mystics like Abraham Abulafia, but also for its seminal influence germinating the seeds of modern logic and computing with the looming Golem of AI in view.

More about the release

Sefer Yesira is one of the foundational texts of Jewish Kabbalah whose cryptic pronouncements encapsulate the twenty-two elemental Hebrew letters and ten enumerations whose combinations and permutations purport to constitute the bedrock of all worlds, experiences, and languages.

Sefer Yesira can be likened in effect to a Hebrew Oblique Strategies of Brian Eno fame, providing a powerful prompt for creativity. Sefer Yesira’s public appearance during the 10th century instigated an incredible variety of Jewish commentaries, the influence of which spread further afield during the Renaissance in Italy and has reverberated even unto our time. In this spirit, I have entitled my translation of Sefer Yesira as the Book of Creativity.

I am currently working on preparing a revised print edition of my translation and introduction to Sefer Yesira to be released in Spring 2025.
